Which filling services does NLL provide?

Filling is adapted to damage and the area needing smoothing. Fine and coarse fillers have different uses. Skim coating describes treating a larger continuous area, not a particular product.

Spot filling

Individual holes and small surface imperfections. Describe where the damage is and send close-up photos.

Joint filling

Joints and screw holes in plasterboard that is already installed. Installing new boards is not included in this description.

The illustrations show differences in scope. The surface must be assessed before a quote is prepared.

Terms to help describe filling work
TypeWhen used
Coarse fillingFor larger irregularities, using a product suited to the surface and filling depth.
Fine fillingFor minor irregularities and smoothing, according to product use.
Skim coatingWhen a larger continuous wall or ceiling area needs smoothing.

For installed plasterboard, the guide to plasterboard joint filling covers joints, screw holes and differences from skim coating.

Isolated holes may need local filling; larger irregularities may need skim coating. Read about skim coating before painting to understand scope differences.

Choose filler for the surface

Filling depth, drying and repeated treatment follow product instructions. Beckers’ filling advice emphasises choosing for the surface and following instructions.

When does a wall need filling before painting?

Filling is needed where holes, joints or unevenness require repair or smoothing. Condition and desired finish determine whether work covers isolated spots or larger areas.

Describe screw holes, open joints and cracks in the enquiry. Recurring damage needs assessment before covering. Send a wall overview and close-ups.

Is filling needed before wallpapering?

It depends on the surface and wallpaper system requirements. Check chosen wallpaper and adhesive requirements before deciding preparation.

NLL offers filling, but not standalone wallpapering. State the finish to follow so preparation can be described in the quote.

See filling labour prices per m². Standalone filling material costs need separate confirmation.

How does filling proceed step by step?

Work includes surface assessment, repair or smoothing, and preparation for the next finish. The surface and product determine treatments needed.

  1. Assess and define: mark damage and agree walls or ceilings to treat.
  2. Repair and smooth: choose suitable filler and let it dry as instructed before further treatment.
  3. Check the surface: sand and remove dust where needed, then confirm readiness for the agreed finish.

Need help with both filling and wall and ceiling painting? State both in the quote request so scope and materials can be specified together.

What happens with suspected moisture damage in plasterboard?

Suspected moisture damage must be investigated before filling or painting. Damage extent and moisture cause determine required action.

Discolouration, bubbles or odour may warrant investigation, but cannot establish cause or extent alone. The Public Health Agency of Sweden’s moisture-damage guidance describes the need for building investigation and addressing the moisture source.

NLL Måleri’s service here is filling before finishing. Remediation and plasterboard replacement are excluded and must be assessed separately before filling is planned.

What does filling cost?

Filling labour costs 250–375 SEK per m² including VAT before any applicable ROT. Materials are separate. This covers filling without painting; scope must be quoted. See filling prices and scope options or estimate your project cost.

Need both filling and painting? NLL’s combined labour price is 562.50 SEK/m² including VAT before any applicable ROT deduction. Materials are extra, and the scope is specified in the quote. See the worked example for the cost of filling and painting a room to distinguish labour costs from materials and deductions.
