Timber cladding replacement in Skåne
NLL Måleri replaces timber-house façade cladding in north-west Skåne. Describe affected areas and whether painting is also wanted. The quote should separate labour, timber, painting and extras.
Cladding replacement: labour 1,000–1,375 SEK/m² including VAT before any applicable ROT. Timber: 625 SEK/m². Final painting and extras excluded.
Timber façade painting: labour 625–875 SEK/m² including VAT before any applicable ROT. Paint and protective materials: 187.50–250 SEK/m². Other project costs extra.
The comparison shows labour costs. Replacement and painting are different jobs with different materials. Cladding condition determines the work needed; the lowest price does not determine whether damaged boards can be painted.
When is cladding replaced rather than repainted?
Rotten or through-cracked boards need assessing for replacement before painting. If the problem is mainly paint, preparation and repainting may suffice. The whole façade does not automatically need identical treatment.
Distinguish paint damage from timber damage. State affected areas and signs of moisture. Do not paint over damage without first assessing necessary action.
The guide to replacing or repainting cladding helps compare options. NLL also offers painting timber cladding where appropriate for the surface.
How does cladding replacement proceed step by step?
Replacement and any painting must be defined in the quote. These steps describe potentially included tasks; replacement prices do not automatically include painting the whole façade.
- Define replacement: state areas to remove and replacement cladding.
- Assess underlying parts: once opened, clarify damage and other required measures.
- Install cladding: profile, dimensions, fixings and wall moisture management must work together.
- Plan treatment: check supplied treatment and remaining work under product instructions.
- Define painting: if included, specify system, surfaces and price separately.

Which timber species is used for new cladding?
Spruce is common for exterior cladding. Your project’s timber must be stated in the quote alongside profile, dimensions and treatment.
Swedish Wood’s TräGuiden describes spruce as standard cladding timber and explains water absorption differences between spruce and pine sapwood. Check that the chosen product suits the façade’s conditions.
| Detail | What you compare | Quotation information |
|---|---|---|
| Timber species and product | Cladding intended for the particular façade | Proposed cladding timber |
| Profile and dimensions | Appearance and junction with existing cladding | Photos and measurements |
| Surface treatment | Treatment supplied and remaining work | Whether priming or painting is included |
For partial replacement, new cladding must match retained areas. Species alone does not determine the finished façade’s function or appearance.
Ask which timber the material price covers. Another species or product may need a different pricing basis.
What is checked behind old cladding?
Battens, wind barrier and other underlying parts may need assessment once opened. Replacing cladding does not automatically mean replacing or repairing the whole wall structure.
Damaged or damp timber behind cladding requires its extent and cause clarified before planning further work. Findings may change required measures and expertise.
Ventilation and moisture protection must be assessed for the construction. NLL’s cladding price does not mean new battens, wind barrier and all hidden repairs are always included.
Request a clear description of extras before approving. See cladding replacement and timber prices for the labour, timber and painting breakdown.
Is planning permission needed to replace cladding?
Replacing cladding on a house may be exempt, but exceptions apply. Check building circumstances and property regulations before ordering a façade change.
Boverket describes exempt work and situations with changed or extended permission requirements in its guidance on changing façades or roofs. Even exempt changes must meet applicable requirements. Contact the municipal building committee for advice on your property.
What does cladding replacement cost?
NLL’s labour rate is 1,000–1,375 SEK per m² including VAT before any applicable ROT. Timber adds 625 SEK per m². Together, labour and timber total 1,625–2,000 SEK per m² before ROT. Final painting, paint, scaffolding and extras need separate pricing. See cladding replacement and timber prices or estimate your project cost.
