NLL’s Ängelholm reference project shows a painted rendered house. The photographs document the façade and work; the appropriate schedule for another property depends on its condition and scope.
Project at a glance
- Rendered façade and window painting — the whole surface washed, repaired, primed and painted twice
- Assess repaired areas for compatibility, absorption and any priming required by the paint system
- Windows painted after the façade — so trim and sashes meet a finished surface, rather than the reverse
- Colour chosen on site — against the house’s tiled roof, not from a sample held in the hand
The result
What would a rendered façade like this cost at your home?
Area, surface condition and preparation determine the price. Calculate a range for your own house below.
Estimate your cost
Enter the scope for an estimated range including VAT. Any illustration after a 30% ROT deduction applies only to qualifying labour and assumes the customer meets all conditions and has sufficient tax capacity and remaining allowance. Materials are excluded.
How did the work proceed, step by step?
Rendered façades require more preparation than they appear to. We follow this sequence on every rendered façade we undertake.
- Washing and dryingThe whole surface is washed and left to dry. Paint applied to damp render detaches within a couple of seasons.
- Inspection and repairsWe remove loose material and repair it. Repairs cure before priming.
- Priming repaired areas: follow the selected paint system’s requirements for the repaired substrate.
- Two coatsWith drying time between coats as stated on the tin.
- Windows the following dayTrim and sashes are painted against a finished façade, avoiding repeated touch-ups from splashes.
What was the schedule?
| Task | Time |
|---|---|
| Washing, drying and render repairs | project-specific preparation |
| Priming and two façade coats | project-specific schedule |
| Windows and trim | 1 day |
The project photographs document the stages of work. Time on a rendered façade is rarely governed by square metres, but by how much render needs repairing before the first coat.
What determines time on a rendered façade?
Render shows everything. Unlike timber, where cracks can be filled and sanded, render sits flush with the rest of the wall: an unprimed repair shows as a darker patch through two coats.
Cleaning, inspection and repair should precede coating where required by the existing condition. Repairs must meet the selected system’s curing and priming requirements before painting.
Plan façade and window work together so masking, protection and access suit the agreed sequence. The order and drying time depend on the individual project.
Which paint and colour were used?
Choose a compatible coating for the render and any existing paint. Moisture conditions and the product’s requirements need assessment before treatment; a general rule about a brand or moisture direction is not sufficient.
Colour was chosen on site against the house’s tiled roof. A sample painted directly on the wall says more than one held in the hand: the same shade looks cooler against red tiles and warmer against greenery.
