Bright room with work lighting, a trestle and a window.

NLL Måleri’s labour price for walls or ceilings is 250–437.50 SEK per m² including VAT. Materials are extra. The square-metre price applies to the surface painted, not floor area. Filling and other work must be defined in the quote.

This guide explains prices per treated area. For several rooms, walls, ceilings and different tasks must be totalled separately.

Which interior surfaces does the labour price cover?

The range covers walls and ceilings. It does not automatically include all interior woodwork, repairs or other surfaces.

The table’s labour prices include VAT and are before any applicable ROT. Materials are separate.

Which interior surfaces does the labour price cover?
Surface areaLabour price per m²
Interior walls250–437.50 SEK
Ceilings250–437.50 SEK

State which surfaces will be treated when comparing quotes. Identical ranges for walls and ceilings do not mean both are included for one area-based charge.

Are trim, doors and windows included?

No, the wall and ceiling price range does not automatically include these. Describe each desired treatment and request a separate assessment. A wall-painting quote is not a quote for everything in the room.

Are preparation and filling included?

The quote must specify preparation. Describe holes, joints, unevenness and previous finishes so the need can be assessed. A separate package price covers surfaces needing filling and painting; read the filling and smoothing price guide before adding several tasks.

How do you calculate the area to paint?

Measure wall width and height and note ceiling area separately. Mark doors, windows and excluded areas for confirmation before the quote.

What is the wall area of a 4 × 3 metre room?

At a ceiling height of 2.5 metres, gross wall area is 35 m²: a 14-metre perimeter multiplied by 2.5 metres. Floor area is 12 m². This shows why floor and wall area are not interchangeable.

Openings and other exclusions need confirming. Painting the flat ceiling adds 12 m² in this geometric example.

What does 20 m² of wall cost?

Labour and the stated paint, tape and protection allowance total 8,750–13,750 SEK including VAT before any applicable ROT. This covers 20 m² of wall, not a room with 20 m² of floor area.

Paint, tape and protection20 × 187.50–250 SEK3,750–5,000 SEK
Total before ROTLabour + stated materials8,750–13,750 SEK

Filling, repairs and extras are not automatically included. Request a surface and task description before using this amount as your project budget.

Why does this differ from a price per room?

A room price may cover different areas and tasks. Check whether ceilings, materials and preparation are included and whether the amount is before or after ROT. Without matching scope, comparisons mislead.

What needs agreeing before ordering painting?

Agree which surfaces are included, your desired finish and how the room will be prepared. Assess the surface before deciding the final treatment.

What should be stated about furniture and protection?

Describe whether the room is furnished and what needs protecting. Ask the quote to clarify who moves furniture, covers floors and restores the room. These practical matters affect what quotes actually include.

What should be stated about colour and the existing finish?

State your chosen colour and, if known, the current wall finish. Ask the contractor to describe the proposed treatment and scope. This price list does not set a universal number of coats.

What is the labour price after ROT?

ROT may cover up to 30% of eligible labour when conditions and allowance permit. Read the Swedish Tax Agency's conditions.

For 20 m² of wall, labour and stated materials total 7,250–11,125 SEK after a 30% deduction on all labour. The calculation is conditional and excludes additional work.

How do you calculate several rooms?

List each room and separate walls, ceilings and filling needs. Use the guide to interior house painting costs for the overall budget.
