What did the Kvidinge Church project include?

NLL Måleri’s Kvidinge Church reference project records work on 44 windows, together with bargeboards and window flashings. The photographs document window maintenance and painting.

The appropriate scope for an older timber window depends on the condition of the frame, sash, putty, glazing and existing paint. Full restoration and repainting are different scopes and must be assessed separately.

What preparation and repairs were carried out?

Three stages preceded all painting: sanding to a clean bondable surface, repairing damaged timber with high-quality wood filler and replacing defective panes throughout the sashes. Preparation determines durability, so this received the greatest care.

Old weather-exposed timber windows need more than a coat of paint. We worked through each sash before applying any paint:

Sanding: all windows thoroughly sanded for a clean, bondable surface.
Repair: damaged areas restored with high-quality wood filler for an even finish.
Glass replacement: defective and broken panes replaced with new ones.

Damaged timber must be assessed before choosing repair, replacement of parts or full replacement. Manufacturing new sashes is not included in NLL’s confirmed offer. The restoration guide explains the assessment and scope in more detail.

How were painting and weather protection carried out?

All sashes received Beckers Perfekt window paint inside and out, while bargeboards and metal window flashings were painted to resist weather and moisture over time.

The coating combined appearance with function on a year-round weather-exposed building:

Windows: complete interior and exterior painting of all 44 windows.
Timber details: painting bargeboards (weatherboards) for optimum weather protection.
Metalwork: painting and refreshing metal window flashings.

The photos document work on the window sashes. Preparation, masking and application must suit the window and the selected paint system. Exterior work depends on the product’s weather and surface requirements.

What was the result?

The completed photographs show the maintained and painted windows. Combining traditional craftsmanship with modern repair materials restored both the sashes’ appearance and protective function.

For an older building, assess the existing construction and any preservation requirements before deciding on treatment. Repair, full restoration and replacement are different options; the condition of the timber and glazing determines which is appropriate.
